Bournemouth 3-1 Southampton - Premier League: Saints claw a goal back after horror first half saw Cherries well on top in South Coast Derby

Ross Stewart hooked just wide after a low cross toward the front post but replays showed his effort took a deflection.

It's been a serious shift from Antoine Semenyo all over the pitch.

He's my man of the match by a long way.

Southampton mounted a little bit of pressure around the hosts' box but Joe Aribo's strike from 25 yards was blocked.

Justin Kluivert then scrambled away on the counter but he couldn't find a team-mate inside the area with his low cross.

Inches wide from Ryan Christie! Alex Scott tried his luck as Bournemouth piled on the pressure and the ball rebounded back out.

Christie was the first to latch onto it and his effort - a dagger that swerved through the air - had Aaron Ramsdale scrambling.

Luckily for the goalkeeper, the effort fizzed the wrong side of the post.

Lewis Cook found Antonine Semenyo on the far side of the box and the forward looked to shoot from a tight angle.

Charlie Taylor made the block with Southampton having clearly learned they had to close down the danger man quicker.

Bournemouth's press has been relentless this evening.

Time is slowly but surely running out of time for the visitors.

Evanilson and Marcus Tavernier have made way for Bournemouth. Enes Unal and Alex Scott are on in their place.

For Southampton, Cameron Archer has been thrown into the fray. Youngster Tyler Dibling was the man replaced.

Well over the top from Adam Lallana. Cue a couple of changes.

This game is beautifully poised and Saints want a second goal.

Ben Brereton Diaz cut the ball across the face of goal but Milos Kerkez smuggled the ball behind, preventing a Ross Stewart tap-in.

Shouts for handball from Southampton! They were half-hearted.

A strike from the edge of the area flew through a crowd of bodies but the referee and VAR certainly weren't interested.

Play was waved to continue.

Adam Lallana is on in place of Mateus Fernandes.

SAVE! Evanilson fires into the arms of Aaron Ramsdale.

Lewis Cook threaded the big striker through but he could only crack one at the goalkeeper. He should really have found a corner.

Another chance for Antoine Semenyo to run straight at the heart of Southampton's backline. He then teed up Justin Kluivert.

The substitute chanced his arm from the edge of the area but a sea of yellow stopped him from troubling Aaron Ramsdale.

Justin Kluivert was played through into the box down the near side and he shifted the ball on to the opposite flank.

There, Antoine Semenyo could only dig out a weak shot.

We've certainly got a game on our hands here.

Bournemouth haven't quite clicked into gear like they did in the first half and Southampton are happy to play more direct.

Antoine Semenyo jinked inside but his shot cannoned off a defender.

Bournemouth have made their first change.

Justin Kluivert is on for Dango Ouattara.

Evanilson snatched up a loose touch from Taylor Harwood-Bellis and won Bournemouth a corner which was swung in.

Ross Stewart rose highest to head the ball behind for another set-piece. This time, Milos Kerkez fired well over after a half-clearance.

Mateus Fernandes was a little too eager as he bundled a Bournemouth player over inside Southampton's half.

He's on a yellow card so has to be careful.

That was ambitious from substitute Ben Brereton-Diaz.

The forward has been a livewire since coming on and he picked up the ball in space down the near side and ran at the box.

His effort was poor, though, and curled harmlessly wide.

Tyler Dibling is the next to have gone into the book.

Oh, and also Flynn Downes for dissent.

Southampton, all of a sudden, are revitalised.

Charlie Taylor's dipping cross from the left landed perfectly on the head of Ross Stewart but he could only guide one over the top.

Yukinari Sugawara has also been cautioned.

He brought down Marcus Tavernier inside his own half.

Southampton have one back! Do we have a game on our hands?

Mateus Fernandes lofted in a brilliant ball for Taylor Harwood-Bellis and the defender did superbly to head home via a deflection.

The visitors desperately needed that.

Milos Kerkez has been booked after bringing down Tyler Dibling.

To their credit, Southampton really are committed to playing out from the back and using the ball regardless of the scoreline.

They do need a goal to restore a glimmer of hope, though.

Bournemouth have flown out of the blocks and are applying the early pressure after the restart. Antoine Semenyo looks untouchable.

The visitors earn a bit of respite inside their own half after a foul by Evanilson. They need to reset at the break.

Antoine Semenyo's on fire and Bournemouth have a third!

Jamie Carragher believes top clubs will be looking at the ace and judging by that, it's not hard to see why.

Semenyo danced his way into a yard of space on the far side of the box and picked his spot inside Aaron Ramsdale's far corner.

Absolutely brilliant.

Bournemouth have won another corner. Southampton urgently need a foothold. They also have plenty of attacking firepower on the bench.

This has turned into a miserable evening already for the visitors.

It's a slightly new shape for them this evening but since falling behind, they've been second to everything. The warning signs are flashing.

Evanilson brought Bournemouth away on the counter-attack and Marcus Tavernier found Semenyo on the edge of the box.

The tricky forward ducked and weaved into space before teeing up Lewis Cook, the midfielder finding the net via a deflection.

Russell Martin is looking a little gloomy down on the touchline.

Southampton started well and looked composed on the ball but they've been visibly shaken by the manner of Bournemouth's opener.

Marcus Tavernier and Evanilson reacted much quicker than the backline and those moments punish teams in the Premier League.

It was a high tackle on Marcos Senesi, who required treatment.

Marcus Tavernier was given time and space to shoot from the edge of the box and his swerving effort stung the goalkeeper's palms.

Ramsdale then collected at the second attempt.

Dango Ouattara squeezed to the byline and got a cross away, but the ball deflected off a defender and back off the forward for a goal kick.

WALLOP! Lewis Cook smashed into a crunching challenge on Ryan Fraser but, somehow, was given just a talking to.

He left everything in that against his former team-mate.

Taylor slid in at the near post and diverted behind.

All of a sudden, Bournemouth are bursting with energy and searching for a quickfire second goal. The home crowd has come to life.

Russell Martin wasn't impressed with the breakthrough, however. He believed the ball was rolling for the quick free-kick.

Bournemouth took a free-kick quickly and Marcus Tavernier caught the Saints backline sleeping with a gorgeous ball over the top.

Evanilson stretched and tucked beyond Aaron Ramsdale with aplomb, his first goal in the hosts' red and black.

The £40million record signing is off the mark.

Tyler Dibling charged into the penalty area but was robbed of the ball by Marcos Senesi. He appealed for a penalty but was never getting it.

Southampton looked to play out from the back again but Evanilson was alive to the danger and closed the goalkeeper down.

Ramsdale shifted the ball out of his feet slightly and evaded the challenge. He then booted high up field.

Evanilson had a half chance to try his luck but he hesitated for a little too long and the opening was gone.

Southampton will be pleased with how they've started this one.

SAVE! Ryan Fraser forces Kepa into a simple enough stop.

The winger let fly a dipping effort that moved through the air but the goalkeeper did enough to parry and then gather at the second attempt.

That would not have gone down well...

Southampton have looked very comfortable on the ball so far.

The visitors put Kepa under pressure and forced a turnover just outside the box - but they were unable to do much with it.

Inches away from a Southampton opener!

Ryan Fraser and Lesley Ugochukwu linked up sharply down the far side and the latter's pullback found Maxwel Cornet.

His effort was deflected just wide of the target.

It took about 10 seconds for Ryan Fraser to be loudly booed by the home supporters. 'Wee man', the away end responds.

The forward has taken to life in the Premier League quite brilliantly. It's worth keeping an eye on his movement this evening.

He is still to get off the mark for the club but has impressed so far.

There will be no Andoni Iraola in Bournemouth's dugout tonight. He is serving a touchline ban after picking up three yellow cards this season.

The third came in the defeat by Liverpool last weekend.

It is disappointing, but we cannot change it.

They told me that, with yellow cards, you cannot appeal them. That is something that doesn't happen in Spain, over there you can do it.

I think they probably understand my side now, but they cannot accept any appeals for yellow cards.

Bournemouth got the edge over their south coast neighbours in their last Premier League meeting back in April 2023.

Marcus Tavernier struck in the second half to secure a 1-0 win at St Mary's. Southampton went on to finish rock bottom and were relegated.

The Cherries, meanwhile, finished five points clear of the drop zone.

Expect some brutal chants for Ryan Fraser from the home crowd.

He is not a popular man at Bournemouth after refusing to sign an extension to take him to the end of the Covid-extended season.

There were more than a few wry smiles when Fraser was then sent to Newcastle's U-21s by Eddie Howe - the coach he had disappointed.

Fraser is up for this one, however, and starts.
